At Minnesota State University, Mankato, students who wish to register for more than the standard credit limit in a semester can request a credit overload—a process designed to ensure academic readiness and success. 

Credit Overload Request Overview 

Students who want to take more credits than the standard limit in a semester must request a credit overload. This ensures they are academically prepared and supported. 

Undergraduate Students 

Credit Limit: More than 18 attempted credits per term 

Steps:  

  1. Fill out the Undergraduate Credit Overload Form
  2. Have your advisor review and make a recommendation. 
  3. Submit the form to your Student Advising Director. 
  4. Approval depends on academic performance, advisor input, and university policy. 

Graduate Students 

Credit Limit: More than 12 attempted credits per term 

Steps:  

  1. Discuss your plan with your advisor. 
  2. Complete the Graduate Credit Overload Form
  3. Submit it to Graduate Studies for review and approval.
