Editing and Downloading Automatic Captions in Kaltura MediaSpace

Overview

This article outlines how students and employees can edit and download automatic captions in Kaltura MediaSpace. After uploading a video, users can access the Closed Caption Editor to correct automatically generated captions for accuracy and accessibility. It also explains how to download caption files. Additional resources and support options are provided for further help.

Once a video is uploaded to MediaSpace, captions and transcripts are automatically generated in English. After the video is uploaded, allow anywhere from a few minutes to hours for processing. Note that automatically generated captions are not fully accurate and they must be edited for accessibility.

Edit captions on a video:

1. Log in to Kaltura MediaSpace. Use StarID@minnstate.edu (employees) or StarID@go.minnstate.edu (students) and your StarID password.
2. From the user menu, select My Media. 
3. Select the desired video.
4. Select Actions, then Edit.
5. Select the Captions tab.
6. Select Edit Captions.
7. Make edits in the Closed Caption Editor and click Save when finished.

Download captions on a video:

1. Log in to Kaltura MediaSpace. Use StarID@minnstate.edu (employees) or StarID@go.minnstate.edu (students) and your StarID password.
2. From the user menu, select My Media. 
3. Select the desired video.
4. Select Actions, then Edit.
5. Select the Captions tab.
6. Select the Download button next to the captions file under the Actions section.
