Overview
This article is to inform the campus community of changes to employee technology purchasing and the Campus Computer Store. The University is moving to a new, simplified technology procurement process for employees. This change will create a more consistent technology purchasing experience and help the University better manage changing technology, rising costs, and security requirements.
As a part of this transition, the Campus Computer Store is closing. IT Solutions will continue to facilitate faculty and staff technology procurement, purchasing, and support. We’ll also continue to curate technology recommendations for students. Additional communications and updates will be shared throughout the transition.
What's Changing
New Department Purchasing Webpage
Beginning September 8, employees will purchase University-owned laptops and computers, tablets, monitors, docking stations, and storage devices through the new University Technology Purchasing webpage in Maverick OneStop.
How it Works
- Employees can submit a purchasing request from a focused selection of standard technology options designed to meet the vast majority of work needs.
- Employees can also purchase other accessories including keyboards, mice, headsets, and more.
- For technology needs that fall outside the standard offerings, employees can submit an exception request.
- Purchases will continue to use University cost center numbers. P-Card payment is not available.
Campus Computer Store Closure
At the end of the Fall 2026 semester, the Campus Computer Store is planned to close both its online and physical retail locations. In-stock items can be purchased through the Store until then. IT Solutions will continue to facilitate faculty and staff technology procurement and purchasing. We’ll also continue to curate technology recommendations for students.
Why this Change is Happening
This transition is in response to changing technology needs and complexity, trends in the way technology is purchased, increasing security risks, and rising global costs. It supports a more secure, sustainable, and strategic approach to technology procurement, lifecycle planning, and technology stewardship across our campus.
Benefits
- Improves efficiency in purchasing, management, and support for University-owned devices.
- Ensures security requirements are met and data is protected across the University.
- Ensures compatibility and support with campus systems and services.
- Reduces costs associated with retail store operations.
