How do I map a drive letter to access MavDISK on a Windows PC?

Overview

This document outlines the steps to setup MavDISK for your Windows

  • On-campus university computers: Mapping drive letters to MavDISK on state-owned desktop and laptop computers happens automatically. The M: drive connects to your personal MavDISK folders, and the N: drive connects to departmental group folders.
  • On-campus personally owned computers: Follow the instructions below to map a drive to MavDISK. The instructions can also be used to map department drives. Note: If you are off campus, you must first  connect to the VPN (view VPN Windows instructions or Mac instructions).Then follow the instructions below. Map MavDISK

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. On the left-hand side of the window, click on This PC.
  3. Click on Computer.
  4. In the menu that appears, click on Map network drive.
  5. Depending on what you are are looking to do you can don one of the following:
    • Personal MavDISK:  \\mavdisk.mnsu.edu\STARID$
      • Note:  Replace STARID with your stard and make sure you end it with the $.
      • Example:  \\mavdisk.mnsu.edu\aa1234aa$
      • This is includes My Private Files and My Public Files.
      • Map drive personal
    • The general MSU location:  \\mavdisk.mnsu.edu\msu
      • To map to a group folder enter \\mavdisk\msu\group folders
      • This will vary depending on what access a person may have.  This may show course groups, software, and department drives.

  6. Click on Finish.
  7. You should get prompted for a log in.
  8. Enter the following:
    1. Username:  campus\STARID
    2. Password:  Your StarID password
    3. login window
  9. Click OK.
