Summary
Explains how to troubleshoot slow VPN performance by checking internet speed, aiming for at least 12 Mbps, and considering WorkMSU or disabling IPv6 on Macs if needed.
Body
Issue Description
Slow internet speeds while using VPN.
Possible Causes
Typically, slow VPN performance is caused by the customer's slow Internet connection. A minimum of 12 Mbps Internet connection is recommended.
Resolution
To fix slow speeds while using VPN:
- Perform a network speed test using either SpeedTest.net or SpeedOf.me
- Network speed should be more than 12 Mbps.
- An alternative method is to use WorkMSU rather than VPN since WorkMSU is a remote desktop connection where only the keyboard, video and mouse go back to the customer laptop while the actual software runs on a server in the computer center on campus.
- Note: Some Mac computers will have slow VPN service if IPV6 is enabled.
