Adding Feedback to Quizzes When Grading in D2L Brightspace

Overview

This article explains how instructors can add feedback when grading quizzes in D2L Brightspace. Instructors can provide overall feedback, attempt-specific feedback, and individual question feedback to support student learning.

Each type of feedback appears in different locations for students and can be used together to give clear, targeted guidance.

Add feedback to quizzes while grading in D2L Brightspace.

Overall Feedback

Overall Feedback is displayed in Quizzes and in Grade items associate with the quiz.

To add overall feedback to a quiz in a D2L Brightspace quiz:

  1. Open Actions for the quiz (use the down-caret next to the quiz name).
  2. Select Grade
  3. Click on the students Overall Grade
  4. Add your Overall Feedback in the text box for the quiz to the selected student. 
  5. Click Save.

Attempt Feedback

Attempt Feedback is only displayed in Quizzes.

Follow the steps to add feedback to a quiz attempt in a D2L Brightspace quiz:

  1. Open Actions for the quiz (use the down-caret next to the quiz name).
  2. Select Grade
  3. Click on the students Attempt 1 (or whatever attempt you wish to give feedback on)
  4. Add your Attempt 1 Feedback in the text box for the attempted quiz to the selected student. 
  5. Select Update.

Attempt Feedback TextBox

Question Feedback

Question feedback is only displayed within the quiz attempt. Question feedback will only display when the appropriate Quiz Results Display settings are selected.

Follow the steps to add feedback on individual questions from a quiz attempt in a D2L Brightspace quiz:

  1. Open Actions for the quiz (use the down-caret next to the quiz name).
  2. Select Grade
  3. Click on the students Attempt 1 (or whatever attempt you wish to give feedback on)
  4. Under Quiz Results click the arrow next to Expand Question 1 Feedback (or whatever question you wish to leave feedback on)
  5. Enter your feedback in the text box.
  6. Select Update.

Outcome

After completing these steps, students will see feedback at the overall quiz level, per attempt, and on individual questions based on the feedback types you provided.
