Overview
This helps students at Minnesota State University, Mankato understand how to navigate course waitlists during registration. It outlines key steps for joining, monitoring, and responding to waitlist notifications, while offering practical tips to avoid missing enrollment opportunities. Whether you're new to the process or need a refresher, this overview makes it easy to stay informed and ready.
Waitlist
A waitlist is a queue of students hoping to enroll in a class that’s currently full. When a seat becomes available, the first student on the list receives an email notification from the university. It’s important to act quickly—students have 24 hours to claim their spot before it’s offered to the next person in line.
Key things to know:
- Students must add themselves to a waitlist during registration.
- Enrollment is not automatic—students must complete the registration process once notified.
- Not all departments use the waitlist feature, so availability may vary.
- Students should check their university email daily to avoid missing opportunities.
- Other registration issues may still prevent enrollment, even if a seat is offered.
How to join a waitlist:
- If a course is full and supports waitlisting, a waitlist icon will appear.
- Click the icon, select your desired section(s), and hit Submit.
- You can join multiple waitlists and monitor your position via the Review My Plan page.
- To remove yourself from a waitlist, simply click the “X” next to the course ID.
Waitlists are removed on the Monday before the term begins. Once removed, any available seats are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
