Using Employee Account to Fix D2L Brightspace Error Message when Requesting Merged Courses

This article explains how to resolve an access error that may occur when requesting merged or grouped courses in D2L Brightspace. Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) may see a message stating that they do not have access to the Brightspace Courses app when attempting to request merged courses.

This issue most commonly occurs when a student MavMail account is used instead of an employee (staff) account.

How-To

Fix the “You don’t have access to this app” error when requesting merged courses in D2L Brightspace.

The most common reason the app will display an access error message is when using a Student MavMail account to log into the Brightspace Courses app.

To resolve this issue:

  1. Log out of your MavMail account on the web browser you are using to access D2L Brightspace.
  2. If needed, log out of the Office 365 widget on the D2L Brightspace homepage by clicking the Disconnect FirstName.LastName@mnsu.edu link in the widget.
    • Log out of the Office 365 widget in D2L Brightspace bly clicking disconnect
  3. Log in to your MavMail account using your employee/staff inbox credentials: YourStarID@minnstate.edu
    • Log in to MavMail with employee or staff credentials YourStarID@minnstate.edu
  4. Then open the Brightspace Courses app again.

Outcome

After completing these steps, the Brightspace Courses app should load correctly, allowing you to request merged or grouped courses without receiving an access error.
