Accessible Technologies

Accessible Technologies is a strong advocate for learners of all types of physical and cognitive abilities. In partnership with our colleagues in Accessibility Resources, IT Solutions provides services for captioning digital media, braille production for course materials, and a range of other services to help ensure that we are creating a landscape at Minnesota State University, Mankato that promotes the principles of Universal Design for Learning.

We also serve as a clearinghouse for information and practical guidance in remaining compliant with a broad range of legal and ethical obligations under University, Minnesota State, local, state, and federal laws, ranging from Copyright and Intellectual Property to FERPA, HIPAA, and Minnesota data privacy and protection requirements.

SERVICE CATEGORIES

Accessibility Review

Faculty and staff can request an Accessibility Review to ensure the accessibility of digital content. Priority is given to rich media such as recorded lectures, videos and movies and interactive media pieces used in the courses.

Accommodation Consulting

In collaboration with Accessibility Resources, IT Solutions is available to consult with instructors, faculty and students who have a registered disability, or work with or teach a person with a registered disability, and to ensure that course materials are accessible and that workplace accommodations are adequate. The delivery of the parameters for this service are determined by customer's goals. The resolution time defined for this service is for the delivery of a plan to execute the customer's defined goals.

Document Conversion

Section 508 of the Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requires we provide equivalent alternatives to content for users with disabilities. IT Solutions has a process to assist in document conversion of print materials for visually impaired learners and is available to work with instructors and students to provide translated course materials.

Media Captioning

Section 508 of the Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requires we provide equivalent alternatives to content for users with disabilities. IT Solutions has a well-developed process for captioning media with nearly 100% accuracy available for faculty, staff, and students.

Media Digitization Services

Instructors are increasingly dependent on a wide range of media to support instruction. If you have a video or audio clip, we can help get it digitized and posted online, while assisting in performing a four factors Fair Use analysis to ensure that we are as compliant as possible with copyright and intellectual property statutes.
