Overview
This document outlines the essential steps undergraduate students must follow to apply for graduation. It emphasizes the importance of reviewing the degree audit, submitting the graduation application during final term registration, and monitoring MavMAIL for evaluation updates. The guide provides additional resources regarding the timeline for degree conferral and diploma distribution.
Preparing to Graduate
To ensure a smooth undergraduate graduation process, students should follow the steps outlined below:
-
Review the Degree Audit
- The Degree Audit Report is used to determine graduation eligibility.
- If a student believes they are eligible to graduate, but their degree audit does not reflect all requirements as met, they should review the report with their faculty or academic advisor.
-
Submit a Graduation Application
- Students should apply for graduation when registering for their final term classes.
- If the application is submitted before registration is complete, the degree audit will not be evaluated, and the student will be asked to re-submit the application after registration.
- Applications are prioritized by the current term and processed on a rolling basis in the order received.
-
After Applying
- Students should check their MavMAIL regularly for updates regarding their degree audit evaluation.
- Evaluations are typically available within 7–10 business days, though processing may take longer during peak periods.
- If an evaluation is marked “Evaluated with Concerns,” the student should meet with their advisor and bring a copy of the evaluation to address any deficiencies.
Degree Conferral
Final degree audit evaluations begin after the grading process has ended, which is one week after the commencement ceremony has concluded. This process can take 8-10 weeks after the end of the term. Graduation Evaluators will review each student’s record and post degrees for those who meet all requirements. To verify that a degree has been posted, students should check their unofficial transcript in eServices under Academic Records.
Diploma Information
Diplomas are ordered once all degrees for the term have been awarded. This can take 10-12 weeks after the grading process has ended. To ensure you get your diploma sent to the correct location, read Diploma Information.
Graduation is Different than Commencement
Graduation and commencement are commonly confused. Please read the Graduation vs. Commencement document to understand how they are different.
