Overview
eduroam is the preferred secure Wi-Fi network for all students, faculty and staff of MSU to use with their personally owned devices. Enroll your device to enjoy Wi-Fi access throughout this campus as well as other eduroam-participating institutions.
To connect Windows 10/11 to eduroam you must have an active StarID account and current internet access. MavGuest can be used if available.
1. Make sure your Windows computer has internet access.
2. Using an Internet browser, navigate directly to wifi.mnsu.edu (available from on or off campus)
3. In the Select your device list, check that Windows 10 is selected
4. Click JoinNow
5. Download the setup file when prompted
6. Go to your Downloads folder and click WiFi_Minnesota_State_University_Mankato_Wrapper.exe to open the installer
7. If a warning pops up, select Yes or Run to run the installer application
8. Select Next to proceed with the setup
9. A browser window will open. Sign in with your StarID@go.minnstate.edu and password (for students) or StarID@minnstate.edu and password (for current employees). Click Next to continue.
10. Once you see the message Joined press Done to close the program
Your Windows computer should now be connected to the eduroam Wi-Fi network if eduroam is available where your Windows computer is located.
The installer will attempt to forget the MavNET, MavGUEST and MavNet-Encrypted networks if they have been used before. Forgetting the other networks is desirable to ensure that the device will prefer to use eduroam whenever it is on campus. To check this:
1. Right-click on the Wi-Fi icon in the system tray and select Open network and system settings
2. Select Show available networks
3. Right-click on MavGUEST, MavNET, and MavNet-Encrypted. If there is a Forget option in the menu, click Forget. If there is only a Connect menu item, do not click on Connect.
Your Windows 10/11 computer is now set up to use eduroam. It will work wherever you are throughout the world that an eduroam network is available if you are a current student or employee at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Changing your StarID password will not require any Wi-Fi related updates on your Mac.
