Understanding the Reciprocity Process

Overview

Students from states such as Wisconsin, North Dakota, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Indiana, Ohio, and the Canadian province of Manitoba may be eligible for reciprocity agreements, which allows them to pay reduced tuition rates.  Additionally, U.S. military veterans, regardless of their residency status, are treated as Minnesota residents for undergraduate tuition purposes. This benefit also extends to their spouses and legal dependents under the Section 702 Choice Act.

Reciprocity Process

During the Admissions application and acceptance process, reciprocity is assigned for students from Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, Indiana, Ohio, and the Canadian province of Manitoba. No additional action is needed for students from these states/province.

Students from Wisconsin and North Dakota must complete an application to determine reciprocity status. These applications and decisions are not made by MSU Mankato.

As long as a student is actively taking courses in Fall and Spring terms, students remain eligible for their reciprocity rate.
