Learning Space Design

Description  

IT Solutions provides innovative technology solutions for learning spaces at the University, including design and implementation. Additionally, IT Solutions supports ongoing maintenance to keep equipment and software up to date. Spaces include formal learning spaces where faculty hold classes (such as classrooms, labs, conference rooms, and seminar rooms) as well as informal learning spaces where students can congregate (such as study booths, open computer labs, makerspaces, and collaborative work areas).

Key Features 

  • Space design and implementation: IT Solutions works with campus partners to discuss needs, identify solutions, design the space, and coordinate implementation. Includes aspects like furniture, layout, electrical, and technology. Costs are covered for the standard base classroom configuration, view Classroom Technology Standards and Specifications for more information.  
  • Equipment maintenance: IT Solutions is responsible for day-to-day technology maintenance that falls under normal wear and tear on the computers, including regular replacement cycles. Support is provided through Classroom Technology Support
  • Software management:  
    • IT Solutions supports a wide array of enterprise level software, as well as some specialized software, and is responsible for purchasing and maintaining those licenses. Faculty and departments are responsible for purchasing and maintaining any additional software (note, before purchasing new software, submit the required software review).  
    • If new software needs to be installed on classroom computers, submit a request to IT Solutions during the following timelines: 
      • For summer implementation: Submit by January 
      • For fall implementation: Submit by April 
      • For spring implementation: Submit by October 
    • Each summer, computers are updated to the newest operating system. Software updates are also applied. Before updates, IT Solutions consults with faculty and students to verify software needs.

Cost 

For the standard base classroom configuration, IT Solutions covers the cost. If departments request additional, alternative, or upgraded features beyond this base setup, the department is responsible for covering the cost.
