Description

Microsoft 365 Copilot is an advanced generative AI assistant and chat bot in the Microsoft 365 suite (similar to ChatGPT) designed to enhance productivity. It leverages the power of AI to assist users with tasks such as researching topics, creating content, data analysis, content creation, generating reports, summarizing documents, providing insights, and more. While signed in, M365 Copilot provides MSU students with additional data security and protection of non-public data used with the service. Data won't be used outside of MinnState or used to train generative AI systems. 

Features

  • Summarization: summarize, paraphrase and explain lengthy articles, papers, reports, legal documents or reports.
  • Content Creation: generate topics, brainstorm, draft and edit articles, check consistency and grammar. 
  • Data Analysis: explain complex analytical concepts and interpret results. Analyze Excel data by asking natural language questions about your data.
  • Report Generation: draft reports and use Excel data to analyze trends, generate charts, summarize data and create visual summaries.
  • Topic Research: brainstorm ideas and refine research questions during exploratory research. Summarize articles, PDFs and datasets. Suggest follow-up questions and related topics.
  • Deep Research: Copilot supports three conversation modes:
    • Quick: instant answers
    • Think Deeper: more thoughtful responses
    • Deep Research: takes 3-6 minutes to deliver in-depth, multi-source insights.

This is especially useful for literature reviews, comparative studies or policy analysis.

  • Ideology and Brainstorming: generate creative ideas for projects, communications or planning.
  • Image Creation: create images and photos from text prompts (powered by DALL-E) using Microsoft Designer.
  • Marketing: generate marketing campaigns, social media posts, track trends, summarize marketing research, compare products and competitors using structure table and SWOT analyses, create marketing strategy and plans.
  • Draft Communications: draft email communications, memos, agendas, social media posts, create visuals, videos and short-form video scripts using Visual Creator.

How to Access

Log in to Copilot at  https://m365.cloud.microsoft/chat

Faculty, staff, and students have access to Copilot Chat in Microsoft 365, log in to ensure you are using it in the secured environment. Log in with StarID@go.minnstate.edu (students) or StarID@minnstate.edu (employees) and your StarID passwordAdditional tools and features may be paid or can be requested.
