How do I install or use MavAPPS?

**MavAPPS is only available for Students and Faculty**

NOTE:  MavAPPS is currently only available if you are on campus (Mankato or Edina) or if you are using the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client.  Please view the knowledge articles below if you need assistance using or installing the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client.

There are two methods for accessing MavAPPS:

• Citrix Workspace App (preferred method)
• MavAPPS Website

Both methods use Citrix Workspace, but the web method can have a few more issues due to it needing to use some browser add-ons to make things work.  Those add-ons might need to be reactivated in the browser each time the Citrix Workspace app updates or if the browser updates.  That is the primary reason we recommend using the full application that is installed onto the operating system.  Also you will need to be running macOS 10.15 or higher.

Method 1 Citrix Workspace (preferred method):

1. Download the Mac Citrix Workspace App from:  https://citrix.com/downloads/workspace-app/mac/workspace-app-for-mac-latest.html
2. Go to the location your browser downloads items to and locate and double-click on the CitrixWorkspaceApp.dmg.
   • Note:  This is most likely the Downloads folder.
   • 
3. This should open up dmg container, click on Install Citrix Workspace.
   • 
4. Depending on your security settings, you may be prompted verify that you want to install this.  If you are sure you want to install, click on Allow.
   • 
5. This should then launch the Installer.  Click on Continue.
   • 
6. Click on Continue.
   • 
7. It will prompt if you agree or disagree with the software license agreement.  If you agree, click on Agree to continue the install.
   • 
8. Click on Install to start the installation.
   • 
9. More than likely you will be prompted now for your login for your computer to verify it can install.  Enter your login and password and click on Install Software.
   • Note:  This is the login you use to log in to your Mac.
   • 
10. Once the installer finishes, it will ask if you want to add an account.  Select the check box for Add Account and then click on Continue.
    • 
11. You should get verification that the installation was successful.  Click on Close.
    • 
12. The Citrix Workspace app should automatically launch and ask you to add your account information.  Enter mavapps.mnsu.edu and click on Add.
    • Note:  Your email address will not work.
    • 
13. You should get a login prompt for the Citrix Workspace app.  Enter your StarID and password and click on Log On.
    • 
14. This should bring you into your MavAPPS Store and display the applications you have access to.
    • Note: Some people may see more or less applications depending on what department/classes they are in or if you are an employee or student.
15. Please see the section below on Using the applications in MavAPPS.
16. To run this going forward you would go to your applications folder.  Then locate and double click on Citrix Workspace.

Method 2 MavAPPS Website:

Depending on if you have used MavAPPS before or not, you may get Option 1 or 2.

Option 1:

1. Use this option if you already have installed the Citrix Workspace App.  It should just prompt you for your login.  Enter your StarID and password.
   • 
2. This should bring you into your MavAPPS Store and display the applications you have access to.
   • Note:  Some people may see more or less applications depending on what department/classes they are in or if you are an employee or student.

Option 2:

1. Click on Detect Citrix Workspace app button.
   • 
2. If it goes to a login screen, go up to Option 1 as it means you already have the application installed.  If you get the screen below, click on the check box next to the Citrix license agreement and click on Download.
   • 
3. This will download the CitrixWorkspaceApp.dmg to your browser's download location.
4. Go to the location your browser downloads items to and locate and double-click on the CitrixWorkspaceApp.dmg.
   • Note:  This is most likely the Downloads folder.
   • 
5. This should open up dmg container, click on Install Citrix Workspace.
   • 
6. Depending on your security settings, you may be prompted verify you want to install this.  If you are sure you want to install, click on Allow.
   • 
7. This should then launch the Installer.  Click on Continue.
   • 
8. Click on Continue.
   • 
9. It will prompt if you agree or disagree with the software license agreement.  If you agree, click on Agree to continue the install.
   • 
10. Click on Install to start the installation.
    • 
11. More than likely you will be prompted now for your login for your computer to verify it can install.  Enter your login and password and click on Install Software.
    • Note:  This is the login you use to log in to your Mac.
    • 
12. Once the installer finishes, it will ask if you want to add an account.  With this method, leave it unchecked and click on Continue.
    • Note:  The add account is used in method 1 up above, which allows you to just use the application instead of needing to go to the website with a browser.

13. You should get verification that the installation was successful.  Click on Close.
    • 
14. Go back to the browser you were using and you should see the screen below.  Click on Continue.
    • 
15. Depending on the browser, you should see something like this below.  Check the check box for Always allow mavapps.mnsu.edu to open links of this type in the associated app.  Then click on Open.
    • 
16. You should be prompted for your login information.  Enter your StarID and password and click on Log On.
    • 
17. This should bring you into your MavAPPS Store and display the applications you have access to.
    • Note:  Some people may see more or less applications depending on what department/classes they are in or if you are an employee or student.

Using the applications in MavAPPS:

1. After logging into the Citrix MavAPPS, double click on the icon of the program you'd like to use.
   • 
2. The program will now start within the Citrix Workspace.  The view will be of a program running as if it were running on your computer.
   • 
3. To quit out of the program you're running, click the X button in the upper right corner. 

Can't start App Error (Website Method):

You may need to use Method 1 above or if you already have Citrix Workspace installed and are already logged into the web portal you can use the automated configuration tool. 

1. Sign in to the MavAPPS using the directions that we used above for method 2.
2. Click the Gear Icon on the top right corner to get a drop down menu.
3. Click on Account Settings from the drop down menu.
4. Then click on Activate Citrix Workspace app to download the config.
   • 
5. Go to your browser's default download location.
   • Note:  This is most likely the Downloads folder.
6. Double click on the receiverconfig.cr file.
7. You should should get a Citrix Workspace window that pops up asking if you want to Cancel or Agree.  Click on Agree.
   • 
8. Citrix Workspace should launch and prompt you for a login.  Login with your StarID and password.
   • 
9. This should bring you into your MavAPPS Store and display the applications you have access to.
   • Note:  Some people may see more or less applications depending on what department/classes they are in or if you are an employee or student.

11. To run this going forward you would go to your applications folder.  Then locate and double click on Citrix Workspace.
