Requesting and using the D2L Course Evaluation Survey

  1. Use the “Request Course Evaluation Form” to request the course evaluation type to be added to your course(s) section(s).
  2. Once the request is completed you will have access to the course evaluations under the Assessments menu > Surveys. The Course Evaluation Survey will be at the bottom of the list of surveys and should have the closed eye symbol next to the name, meaning it is hidden from students. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  3. To remove the question sections that do not apply to your course, click on the drop-down arrow next to the survey name and click Edit. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  4. Once in the survey general properties page, click Add/Edit questions.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  5. If you are using the Customized Question section, click on the name of that section and use the New drop-down button to select your question type and add your questions.  When you are done adding questions, click Done Editing Questions, then save and close the survey. If you are NOT adding Customized Questions, delete the section using the procedure listed above. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  6. When you are ready to launch the survey, navigate to Assessments > Surveys then use the drop-down menu next to the Course Evaluation Survey name and select “Make Visible to Users”. Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  7. Notify your students about the survey by placing a Quicklink to the survey in Content or in an announcement. We have suggested language for emails or announcements below.
  8. To track survey progress and results navigate to Surveys. On the Manage Surveys tab, from the survey's Actions menu, click Statistics. In the Users tab, search for users and their listed attempt types. You can restrict your search of survey results by attempt in the Attempts tab. To view a specific user's results, click on an individual attempt. To view the number of attempts per question within a survey, click View Overall Results at the bottom of the page.
  9. If you would like to download your results, navigate to Assessments > Surveys then use the drop-down menu next to the Course Evaluation Survey name and select “Edit”. Click on the Reports Setup tab, then on the Summary Report title (or you can also click Add Report to create a custom report). Scroll down and check the box next to “Instructor” then click the Save button. To view the reports, navigate to Surveys. On the Manage Surveys page, from the Actions menu of the survey you want to view, click Reports.
  • To save the results to add to your portfolio, click on the report name. If you want to restrict your report within a specific time frame, select the From and To check boxes and enter the date restrictions.   • Improvement of Courses: Your evaluations help instructors understand what works well and what areas need improvement. Constructive feedback on course content, teaching methods, and resources allows faculty to make necessary adjustments to better meet your learning needs.
  • Influence Future Curriculum: Your insights can lead to changes in the curriculum, ensuring that future courses are relevant, engaging, and effective. This continuous improvement process relies on honest and thoughtful feedback from students like you.
