Requesting Admin Privileges on State-Owned Mac Computers

Overview

This article is for University employees who have a state-owned Mac computer. Certain tasks on the computer may require admin privileges. Users can request admin access themselves any time by following the steps in this article. 

Environment

State-Owned Devices: Equipment provided to university employees and managed by Minnesota State University, Mankato. The steps, tools, or solutions in this article may not work on personal devices due to administrative restrictions or licensing requirements.  

How-To

A description of the task that your users are looking to accomplish.

  1. Click the plus icon in the top menu bar.

  2. Click Request Admin Privileges
  3. Log in with your StarID@minnstate.edu and StarID password
  4. Select from the reason options. 15 minutes of admin access will be granted. A timer will appear in the top menu bar. 
  5. If you run out of time, you can request again. 

Outcome

The user will receive 15 minutes of admin access on their computer.
