Understanding the Diploma Timeline and Delivery Process

Overview

As a graduate, this document helps you understand when and how you'll receive your diploma from Minnesota State University, Mankato. It explains that diplomas are mailed 10–12 weeks after the term ends and stresses the importance of keeping your mailing address updated in eServices. If you're graduating internationally, you'll need to purchase a shipping label through eShipGlobal. It's a helpful guide to ensure you don’t miss any important steps in receiving your diploma. 

Diploma Information

Minnesota State University, Mankato provides each graduate with one certified electronic diploma and one paper diploma per degree type at no cost, mailed to the diploma address on file (U.S. addresses only). If your diploma is being mailed to an international address, you must purchase a shipping label through eShipGlobal.

Diploma Timeline 

  • Once your degree is conferred, it is immediately posted to the transcript.  
  • The conferment process begins after the grading process concludes. 
  • Diplomas are mailed 10-12 weeks after the end of the term (fall, spring, summer).   
  • Diplomas are printed and mailed by a third-party vendor.  

Diploma Address 

Students are responsible for making sure their diploma address is accurate. 

  • Recommend using an address that you will have access to 10-12 weeks after the end of the term. 
  • Update your diploma mailing address in eServices by the last day of the term.  
  • Located under Account Management > Name and Address Info > Address Maintenance. 
  • Internationally shipped diplomas must purchase a shipping label using eShipGlobal.  
  • If you are moving, we highly recommend forwarding and changing your address at Official USPS Change-of-Address.   

Minnesota State University, Mankato is not responsible for a diploma being sent to an inaccurate address or a non-forwarded mailing address. 

Additional Copies of Diploma 

Additional diplomas can be ordered through our vendor at the cost of the student.

How do I know if my degree has been conferred or awarded? 

Check your unofficial transcript on eServices. 

Is the transcript or the diploma the official University record? 

The transcript is the official record of your degree earned at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Instructions on Ordering an Official Transcript

My diploma address is no longer accurate and I did not change or forward my mail with USPS. 

If the diploma is returned to Minnesota State University, Mankato by USPS, an email is sent to the student requesting an updated address. If provided, we will send it to the student.  If the diploma is not returned to Minnesota State University, Mankato the student is responsible for ordering another copy through our vendor. 

I earned another major and want a diploma with the new award date. 

If you have earned a second major under the same degree type (e.g., two Bachelor of Science degrees), you are eligible to order an additional copy of your diploma reflecting the most recent award date.

Please note:

  • Diplomas must be ordered through our official vendor.
  • You are responsible for the cost of the additional diploma.
  • Be sure to specify the recent award date when placing your order.
