Tagging Someone in a Discussion in D2L Brightspace Using @Mentions

Overview

This article is for faculty and students and explains how to tag someone in a D2L discussion using the @Mentions feature, which causes them to be notified.

How-To

@Mentions allows you to tag others in a discussion thread or reply. When you tag someone they get a subscription alert notification with a link to the tagged thread or reply. To use the @Mentions feature:

  1. Navigate to the Discussion Topic.
  2. Start a Thread or Reply.
  3. Enter a Subject.
  4. Click into the text box.
  5. Type the @ symbol and start typing the user's name you wish to tag.
  6. A menu of possible names will appear, click the name you wish to tag.
  7. Edit the rest of your thread or reply, then click Post.
  8. When you mention a user, they receive a subscription alert notification with a link to the tagged thread or reply.

Outcome

Users can successfully tag others in D2L Brightspace discussions and ensure those tagged receive notification alerts linking them back to the thread.
