D2L Brightspace: Share Announcements

Question

How do I share a D2L Brightspace announcement for an event or resource with all faculty in my department? How do you export and import an Announcement in D2L Brightspace?

Overview

There are two steps to sharing an announcement with a department or group of faculty in D2L Brightspace:

1. Export an Announcement
2. Import the Announcement

Export an Announcement

This step shows you how to export an Announcement to a .zip file. You can then share the .zip file with others for import in to their courses.

To export an Announcement:

1. Click the Course Admin link in the course navbar.
2. Click the Import/Export/Copy Components link.
3. Select Export Brightspace Package.
4. Click the Start button at the bottom of the page.
5. Check the box next to Announcements.
   • If you would like to export all Announcements select Export all items.
   • If you would like to export specific Announcements, select Select individual items to export.
6. Click the Continue button.
   • If you selected Select individual items, check the box next to the Announcements you wish to export.
7. Click the Continue button.
8. If your Announcements contain images, check the box next to Include course files in the export package.
   • Note: This will include all course files in your course offering. It is recommended that you use a course offering specifically for sharing announcements for this reason.
   • When sharing a new set of announcements, it is helpful to delete all previous announcements and delete all files from Course Admin > Manage Files. This assures your export will only include the files necessary for the shared announcement.
9. Click Export. You will see a message "Export Started: Your export has started. You will receive a notification in Update Alerts when it has completed."
10. Click Update Notifications bell icon.
11. Click the Export finished link in the notification.
12. Click the Click here to download export Zip package link. Save the file to your device/computer or to another location for sharing.

Note: Be sure you save the original .zip file, if your computer automatically unzips/uncompresses the file, be sure that when you save you save the original downloaded .zip file.

Import an Announcement

This step shows you how to import an Announcement .zip file. You first must download the shared/exported .zip file package to your device/computer.

Note: Be sure you import the original .zip file, if your computer automatically unzips/uncompresses the file, be sure that when you upload to D2L Brightspace you use the original downloaded .zip file.

To Import an Announcement:

1. Click the Course Admin link in the course navbar.
2. Click the Import/Export/Copy Components link.
3. Select Import Components.
4. Click the Start button at the bottom of the page.
5. Click the Upload button and follow the steps to upload the .zip package.
6. Click Import All Components button.
7. The software will process briefly, to view the imported announcements navigate back to the course homepage. You may need to go the Announcements tool to view items scheduled in the future.
