Exporting/Importing a Course Package in D2L Brightspace

Overview

This article explains how instructors and Teacher’s Assistants (TAs) can share a D2L Brightspace course with colleagues by exporting and importing a course package (.zip file). The exported package contains course materials and components that can be imported into another D2L Brightspace course.

Both the exporting and importing user must have Instructor or Teacher’s Assistant access to their respective courses.

How-To

Instructor and Teacher's Assistant roles can export a .zip course package file to share with a colleague. Then the other Instructor/Teacher's Assistant user can import the .zip file into their course.

  1. Click the Course Admin link in the course navbar.
  2. Click the Import/Export/Copy Components link.
  3. Select Export as Brightspace Package.
  4. Click the Start button.
  5. Check the box next to Select All Components. You will see everything is selected.
  6. Click the Next button.
  7. Scroll down and check the box next to Include course files in the export package.
  8. Click Export. You will see a message "Your export has been started. You will receive a notification in the Update Alerts when it has completed."
  9. Click the Done button.
  10. When the export is ready, click the Update Alerts bell icon in the minibar.
  11. Click the Export finished link.
  12. Click the Click here to download the export Zip package link.
  13. Save the .zip file. Email or share the downloaded, unopened .zip file with a colleague for import.
