Using Images on The Fountain

Overview

This article is intended for content librarians or admins on The Fountain to understand how best to include images on The Fountain. It covers best practices for image size and alt text.

Image Size

With so much content, it’s critical to keep The Fountain as optimized as possible. Images should not be larger than 300 kb to ensure fast load time and avoid bogging down the platform.

Header Images

  • Size: 1920 px x 1080 px
  • DPI: 72
  • Size: 300KB or Less

Review Microsoft’s support page on best practices for image sizing and scaling. But here’s a quick glance. Most sources say to go with the 16x9 ratio.

Alt Text for Accessibility

Whenever you add an image to a news story, add alt text to make your content as accessible as possible. To add alt text, click the edit button on the image or the image web part. Add alt text under Accessibility in the edit window that opens on the right.

Here is good information on writing alt text.
