Verifying Network Printer is Installed Correctly on Windows Device

Overview

This article explains how to request access to a Minnesota State network printer and verify that it is installed correctly on a Windows PC. It is intended for students, faculty, and staff who need to print to campus network printers.

How-To

To request access to a network printer for a Windows machine or PC, please contact the Solution Center with the desired printer model and location to be added to the printer group.

To verify if any MNSU printer is installed correctly, please follow the directions below

  1. Check to see if the desired network printer says On Printers as shown below. If the printer says on Printers, that means the network printer is installed correctly and any duplicate printers can be removed

  1. The printers name should start with a location code such as WH125 which stands for Wissink Hall Room 125. If the printer does not start with this, it may be a home printer. If it appears to be the same model as the network printer you need to delete the printer by right clicking and selecting Remove device
  2. It is important to remove any duplicate printer to prevent confusion on when you are selecting a printer to print to
  3. If the desired network printer does not appear to show on Printers, please contact the IT Solutions Center to have them add you to the appropriate printer group

Note: If at any point you experience issues, please contact the Solution Center

Outcome

The user is able to verify that the desired network printer is correctly installed on their Windows PC.
