Checking for Local Administrator Rights on Windows Device

Overview

This article explains how to check whether your user account has local administrator rights on a Windows computer. Local administrator access is required for certain software installations and system-level changes.

How-To

  1.  Select the Windows Start button, then select the account button, then select the Change Account Settings option as shown below

  1. If your account does not have Administrator under your name and you believe to be in error, please contact the IT Solutions Center at ITSolutionsCenter@mnsu.edu or 507-389-6654.

Outcome

After completing these steps, you will know whether your Windows account has local administrator privileges on the device.
