Using Force Quit on a Mac

Overview

If Outlook or another application on your Mac becomes unresponsive and shows the spinning beach ball, the app has likely frozen. You can use Force Quit to close the application and restore normal use of your computer.

How-To

If an application such as Outlook or Safari locks up, you can force quit the application.

  1. Click on the Apple menu and select Force Quit or press Command - Option - Esc.
  2. Select the unresponsive app in the Force Quit window, then click Force Quit.

Outcome

After force quitting the unresponsive application, it will close completely and allow you to reopen it normally. This should resolve the freezing issue so you can continue working.
