How do I change my name in D2L Brightspace? How can I use my nickname or preferred name in D2L Brightspace?

Overview

Your first and last name in D2L Brightspace comes from your school’s registration system (often referred to as your ISRS/eServices record).

For your D2L Brightspace account to be updated at your school, your name would need to be updated in your ISRS/eServices record. You can do this with a legal name change or with a preferred name change (not a legal name change).

This article goes over the steps for a preferred (non-legal) name change in D2L Brightspace:

1. Navigate to the Registrar's website for Forms and Links.
2. Scroll down and click the Preferred Name Change link.
3. Log in to eServices with your Star ID credentials.
4. From the Student dashboard, click Account Management.
5. Then click Name and Address info.
6. Click the Edit link and follow the steps to add a preferred name. Your preferred name will update in D2L Brightspace in 15 minutes.
