Overview
This article explains how instructors can add a password to a quiz in D2L Brightspace. Adding a password restricts quiz access so that students must enter the correct password before starting the quiz attempt.
Password-protected quizzes are commonly used for proctored exams or controlled testing environments.
How-To
Add a password to a quiz in D2L Brightspace.
Create a password for students to enter before taking a quiz:
- After editing the quiz, click the Availability, Dates and Conditions menu to expand it.
- In the empty text box right below the Password heading, enter your preferred password. In the example D2LHelp is entered as the password.
- Save and Close the Quiz.

Note: In the quiz list, there will be a key symbol next to the title, to indicate there is a password set on this quiz.

Outcome
After completing these steps, students will be required to enter the password before beginning the quiz. A key icon will appear next to the quiz title in the quiz list, indicating that a password is set.
