Overview
eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, global wireless network used by higher education institutions around the world. At Minnesota State University, Mankato, eduroam is the primary Wi-Fi network for students, faculty, and staff.
All state-owned university computers come pre-configured to securely connect to the eduroam network, requiring no setup from the user. If you’re state-owned computer is having trouble connecting to eduroam contact the IT Solutions Center, do not try and connect using the below instructions.
If you're using a personal device, this article will walk you through how to connect and troubleshoot common issues. Once connected, eduroam provides seamless, secure internet access not only across our campus but also at thousands of participating colleges and universities worldwide.
Tip for students: Set up eduroam before you arrive, it takes just a couple of minutes, your device will auto-connect the moment you’re on campus and you’ll be ready for classes right away.
Connecting to eduroam
Windows, iPhone/iPad, Android, Chromebook, Linux
- Make sure you’re connected to the internet.
- On campus and not online? Join MavGUEST first.
- Not near an eduroam network? Setup still completes; your device will auto-connect when it’s in range.
- Go to geteduroam.app
- Click on the link appropriate to your device to download the geteduroam app
- Open the getedurom app
- Search for and select Minnesota State Colleges and Universities from the institution list
- Read the Terms of Use and tap or click Agree
- Log in with your StarID credentials
- Students: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
- Employees: StarID@minnstate.edu
- Password: your StarID password
iPhone/iPad note:
- When prompted, tap Allow to add the Wi-Fi configuration.
- When prompted, tap Join to join the eduroam network.
- If you’re not near an eduroam network, you may see a message during setup; your device will join automatically when in range.
Mac and Chromebook Devices
- Be within range of an eduroam network (on campus or another eduroam location).
- Open your Wi-Fi settings and select eduroam.
- Sign in with your StarID credentials
- Students: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
- Employees: StarID@minnstate.edu
- Password: your StarID password
- If prompted, accept or trust the security certificate: eduroam.metrostate.edu.
Smart devices, E-readers, and Consoles
Some device types, such as e-readers (e.g., Kindle), smart speakers, streaming devices, game consoles, and some TVs/VR headsets, use a different setup than the steps above and may need to be requested/registered.
Troubleshooting
Sometimes eduroam setup fails, especially if your device was previously configured for another campus or network. Follow the Forgetting eduroam instructions to remove the old configuration, then return here and run the setup again.
