WorkMSU: Remote Connection to a Common Desktop for MacOS

Question

How can I access ISRS when off campus? How can I access MavDISK when I'm at home? How can I use FileMaker Pro when I'm not on campus? What is WorkMSU? How do I connect to WorkMSU using a Mac?

Note: Multi-Factor Authentication is Required to Connect to WorkMSU

When loggin in, WorkMSU requires Microsoft 365 multi-factor authentication using the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device. If your multi-factor authentication settings are configured to use text messaging or another option other than the app, you must change your authentication settings to use the app. You cannot connect to WorkMSU without doing this.

Change your authentication settings to Microsoft Authenticator app

Mac OS Installation Instructions:

  1. Download the Microsoft Remote Desktop app (free) from the Apple Store (only applicable the first time - you don't need to download this every time you wish to connect to WorkMSU)

  1. Download the WorkMSU.rdp file to the off-campus device on which you are working (again, only applicable the first time)

  1. Double-click on the WorkMSU.rdp file you have downloaded to start Remote Desktop (Typically the first step in the process. After the first time downloaded, a short cut will be available on your desktop)
  2. The first time you run this file, you will be asked to trust the publisher. Click Connect

  1. If you are prompted for your username, use campus\StarID (Use YOUR StarID for StarID). Again, this should only be applicable the first time you login

Note: Be sure you are using the word campus and the \ before your StarID

  1. Enter your StarID password and Click Continue

7. Then check your mobile device and approve the multi-factor authentication request. Your computer will wait for you to approve the authentication before moving forward. The multi-factor authentication will look something like this:

Cell phone with pop-up for authentication. Arrow pointing to "Approve"

8. A notification will appear on your computer screen indicating this is a PRIVATE computer System. Click 'OK' to acknowledge the notice

9. You will then be on a virtual desktop and can access the software available as you normally would
