Configuring the Microsoft Authenticator App for International Travel with No Cell Service

Overview

This article explains how to sign in to Microsoft 365 when you do not have cell service while traveling internationally.

You will use the Microsoft Authenticator app to generate a verification code.

How-To

Before You Travel

Install and set up the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
Make sure your account is already added and working before you leave.

Sign In Without Cell Service

1. Go to the Microsoft 365 sign-in page.
2. Enter your email:
   • [StarID]@minnstate.edu
   • or [StarID]@go.minnstate.edu
3. When prompted for verification, select:
   Sign in another way
4. Select:
   Use a verification code from my mobile app
5. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone.
6. Find your account and enter the code shown in the app.

Outcome

You can successfully sign in to Microsoft 365 without needing cell service.
