Overview
This article explains what Turnitin Online Grading is and how instructors can enable and use the digital annotation tool within D2L Brightspace Assignments. It is intended for faculty and instructional staff who want to provide inline feedback, comments, and annotations on student submissions using Turnitin.
How-To
To set-up the Online grading tool in an Assignments submission folder:
- Navigate to your D2L Brightspace course and click on the Assessments tab. Click on Assignments.
- Find the Assignments submission folder you want to set up Turnitin on. Click the arrow next to the title. Click Edit Assignment.
- Click the arrow next to the Evaluation and Feedback menu.
- Click the Manage Turnitin.

- In the pop-up window, check the box next to Enable Online Grading for this folder.
- Select whether you would like to sync grades automatically or manually to D2L Brightspace.

- Click Save.
- Finally, in the Edit Assignments page, click the Save and Close button.
Open Turnitin Online Grading
Navigate to the Submissions page of Assignments, then click the pencil icon in the Turnitin Online Grading column to open the digital annotation tool.

Outcome
After completing these steps, instructors will be able to digitally annotate student submissions using Turnitin Online Grading, and students will be able to view instructor feedback directly within D2L Brightspace.
