Overview
This article explains how to map a network drive on a Windows PC to access MavDISK for personal or departmental file storage.
Environment
State-Owned Devices: Equipment provided to university employees and managed by Minnesota State University, Mankato. The steps, tools, or solutions in this article may not work on personal devices due to administrative restrictions or licensing requirements.

On‑Campus University Computers
State‑owned desktop and laptop computers automatically map MavDISK:
No additional setup is required.
On‑Campus Personal Computers
Follow the instructions below to manually map a drive to MavDISK. These steps also apply to mapping departmental drives.
Off‑Campus Access
If you are off campus, you must first connect to the VPN. (See VPN instructions for Windows or Mac.) You may also use the WorkMSU remote server as an alternative.
Map MavDISK

Open File Explorer.

In the left panel, select This PC.

At the top of the window, select the Computer tab.

Choose Map network drive.
Choose the Drive Path
Select one of the following paths based on your needs:
Personal MavDISK
\\mavdisk.mnsu.edu\STARID$

Replace STARID with your own StarID.

Be sure to include the $ at the end.

Example: \\mavdisk.mnsu.edu\aa1234aa$

This includes My Private Files and My Public Files.
General MSU Location
\\mavdisk.mnsu.edu\msu
Department or Group Folders
\\mavdisk.mnsu.edu\msu\group folders

Available folders vary based on your access.

You may see course groups, software folders, or department drives.

Select Finish.

When prompted, enter your credentials:

Select OK.
Outcome
After completing the steps, MavDISK will appear as a mapped drive in File Explorer under This PC.You will be able to access your personal files or authorized group folders using your StarID credentials.
