Overview
Krypton is a learning platform that helps students explore Linux/UNIX™ systems and remote computing. It provides hands‑on access to programming tools and languages such as Bash, C, C++, Python, PHP, Ruby, Fortran, GDB, Tcl/Tk, TeX/LaTeX, and more. Students can use Krypton to practice coding, debug programs, and build real‑world computing skills.
How-To
Upload or Access Files on Krypton
Server Information
(Refer to the VPN FAQ for setup instructions Windows or Mac.)
Windows: Map a Network Drive

Right‑click This PC or My Computer.

Select Map Network Drive.

In the Folder field, enter: \\krypton.mnsu.edu\StarID (Replace “StarID” with your own StarID.)

Uncheck Reconnect at sign‑in if you do not want Windows to save the connection.

Check Connect using different credentials.

Select Finish.

When prompted, enter:

Your Krypton drive will open in a new window.
Mac: Connect to Server

Select Go from the top menu bar.
-
Choose Connect to Server.

Enter the server address: cifs://krypton.mnsu.edu/StarID (Replace “StarID” with your own StarID.)

Select the Add (+) button to save it as a favorite (optional).

Select Connect.

When prompted, enter:

Your Krypton drive will open in a new window.
Change Your Krypton Password
Krypton uses its own password and is not linked to Active Directory.

Go to https://my.mnsu.edu/account.
-
Sign in with your StarID and StarID password.
-
Select Change krypton.mnsu.edu password.
-
Create and confirm your new password.
Tip: Using the same password as your StarID can help avoid login issues.
Interactive Access (SSH)
Server Information
Windows: Using PuTTY

Open putty.exe.
-
In Host Name, enter: krypton.mnsu.edu.

Select Open.
-
When prompted, enter your StarID.

Enter your Krypton password.
-
You are now logged in.
Mac: Using Terminal

Open Go, then select Utilities.

Open Terminal.
-
Enter the command: ssh StarID@krypton.mnsu.edu

Enter your Krypton password.
-
You are now logged in.
Outcome
After following these steps, you will be able to connect to Krypton, access your files, and log in using SSH on both Windows and macOS.
