Overview
The Hot Desking feature allows Zoom Phone users to temporarily sign in to another provisioned Yealink desk phone using their extension number and PIN. This is useful for employees who share workstations or need to work from a different office location while retaining access to their personal phone extension and settings.
Applies To: Faculty and Staff using Yealink desk phones with Zoom Phone at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Environment
- State-Owned Devices: Equipment provided to university employees and managed by Minnesota State University, Mankato. The steps, tools, or solutions in this article may not work on personal devices due to administrative restrictions or licensing requirements.
How-To
Enable Hot Desking (User)
Users can enable hot desking for any phone they’ve been assigned.

Sign in to the Zoom web portal using your StarID credentials.

In the left navigation menu, select Phone.

Click the Settings tab.

Scroll down to the Desk Phone(s) section.

Select Allow Hot Desking for the desired phone.

To disable the feature, unselect Allow Hot Desking.
Sign In to a Phone
Use one of the following methods to sign in to another Yealink desk phone:

Press the Guest soft key on the phone’s home screen.

OR dial 71, followed by your phone extension and # (example: 711234#).

Enter your PIN when prompted.
Sign Out of a Phone
When finished using the phone, you can sign out using either method:
Outcome
After completing these steps, you can temporarily use another Yealink desk phone as your own Zoom Phone device. Your personal extension, call history, and voicemail will be available until you sign out.
